The Eleftheria Grand Banquet, hosted by the Federation of Hellenic American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley, was a magnificent celebration honoring Greek Independence Day and the strong bonds within the Greek community. The evening’s highlights included recognizing Archon Commander Anthony Limberakis, MD as the Eleftheria Medal Recipient and Philip Christopher, President of PSEKA, as the Grand Marshal.
An array of esteemed guests, captivating performances, and heartfelt speeches filled the event, paying tribute to the vibrant Greek culture and profound unity. John Vasiliou, Parade co-chairman, welcomed attendees and introduced the speakers. Mike Emanuel of Fox News served as the entertaining Master of Ceremonies.
Patriotism resonated as Kaliope Pylaras Mousetis sang the Greek and American national anthems. Dignitaries from the US and Greece addressed the deep ties between the two nations, including President Nick Larigakis of the American Hellenic Institute, AHEPA Supreme President Savas Tsivicos, Consul General of Cyprus Michael Firillas, Greek Ambassador Ekaterini Nassika, Congressman Donald Norcross, and Mayor Ioannis Konstantinos.
Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus invasion, a poignant Cypriot dance emphasized remembrance and unity amid adversity. Georgia Chletcos and Stathis Karapadonis received special recognition for facilitating the Presidential Guard of Greece’s participation, highlighting their dedication to promoting Hellenic heritage.
Co-chairman Harry Karapalides reflected on the enduring Hellenic values and community spirit. Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey delivered a moving invocation and benediction, underscoring the Greek community’s faith, unity, and resilience.
