Akathist Hymn Service Led by Metropolitan Apostolos at St. Thomas Church

Cherry Hill, NJ – On Friday evening, His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey presided over the Akathist Hymn to the Most Holy Theotokos at St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, during an archpastoral visit that brought together clergy, parishioners, and members of the wider Greek-American community.

The service, held during the fifth week of Great Lent, is one of the most beloved and spiritually significant in the Orthodox tradition. The faithful gathered in prayer and reflection, united in their preparation for Holy Week and the celebration of the Resurrection.

In his homily, Metropolitan Apostolos spoke on the enduring meaning of the Akathist Hymn and the importance of remaining rooted in faith, humility, and service—values that continue to guide and inspire the Orthodox Christian journey.

The Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley extends its sincere thanks to His Eminence for his spiritual leadership and to the clergy and community of St. Thomas for their warm hospitality and devotion to preserving our shared religious and cultural heritage.

Moments like this reaffirm the deep connection between faith and community and highlight the importance of coming together in worship and tradition.
