St. Luke Hosts Greek Independence Day Parade

Broomall, PA – Blue flags waved, and car horns sounded off as the St. Luke Greek Orthodox community rallied around its church to celebrate Greek Independence Day yesterday.

Standing outside the church’s steps, Father Christ, parish council members, and the youth dressed in folk attire cheered on the tailgate party commemorating the 200th anniversary.

The event started at 12:30 pm and saw parish members of all ages participating. Smiles and cheers could be heard, but above all, it was Zito I Ellas! Cars drove around the church and circled back several times as Marple Newtown police blocked off Malin Road for the event.

Due to Covid restrictions, there was no formal parade in Philadelphia this year, so the parishioners voted to host their own.
